The fifth generation Mini Cooper has arrived, which brings with it a range of up to 400 km on a single charge. With customer deliveries starting in the first half of 2024, the new Mini Cooper – with prices starting at €32,900 – retains the three-door layout of its predecessor, but brings a fresh new design, particularly at the rear of the car.

It features recessed door handles for the first time, while around the rear the eye-catching Union Jack lights of the previous model have been ditched in favor of triangle-shaped units. A distinctive black glossy plastic part joins the rear lights and also carries the model designation. It will also be known as "Cooper" rather than "Hatch" unlike previous versions.

Inside, the Mini Cooper debuts the first OLED screen for use in a car. It's 240mm in diameter and uses the Mini 9 operating system. The top half of the display provides car-related information like speed and range, while the bottom half gives you access to features like media and navigation. Swipe movements can bring up a "tool belt" of frequently used functions, and climate settings are permanently displayed on the left and right sides of the passenger and driver screens.

It will be available in three specifications – Classic, Exclusive and Sport – with base versions featuring synthetic leather seats and a colored textile dashboard strip. Exclusive models benefit from sports seats and a houndstooth pattern on the cloth dashboard, while the Sport adds black synthetic leather with red stitching and a gloss black front grille and logo.

Two new power units will be available for the electric Mini Cooper. In base Cooper E models, the 40.7 kWh battery provides a range of up to 300 km, while the 181 hp electric motor enables acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 7 seconds.

Meanwhile, the range-topping Cooper SE packs a larger 54.2kWh battery that can help the Mini achieve up to 400km of range – significantly more than the 230km you get from the current car. The more powerful 218 hp electric motor also accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in under 7 seconds. The Mini can also charge at speeds of up to 95kW, meaning a 10-80% charge can be done in 30 minutes.
